KIWI’s V AUSSIES – The Kwinana bowling club held an inaugural Kiwi’s V Aussies Anzac Day bowls match on Monday April 25.
48 bowlers turned out in fine spirit to compete for the Anzac match shield. A minute silence and the National anthem of both countries was played before the match began. Several Kwinana bowlers are also RSL members.
Early in the the game the Aussies were fighting an uphill battle as the Kiwis got off to a flying start, but in true Aussie spirit they fought back and the scores tightened. Sheer determination and grit saw the Aussies win the match comfortably in the end. Better luck next year Kiwi. The match was played in very good spirit and humour with the jibes and slanging by both sides taken in jest.
The Kiwi’s organised this first encounter and provided a delicious and plentiful Hangi to be shared with friends following the match which was enjoyed by all. The Aussies will be the organisers for next years Anzac Day match and will provide a meal of authentic Aussie fare (Vegemite on toast perhaps)!.
Great day had by all and it is hoped that this becomes a tradition on the Kwinana bowls calendar.
